PITAS -- Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal does not need to resort to petty and childish tactics to gain support and boost his chances of becoming Sabah’s chief minister, says Tan Sri Musa Aman.

The Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman described Shafie’s claim that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and himself (Musa) were afraid of losing Sabah in the election as juvenile and a mere tactic to cover up his own weakness.

“Only a leader that feels threatened would resort to this type of immature narrative,” he told reporters after handing over communal grants here today.

He said the fact that Najib had made it a point to visit Sabah often even before the election showed that Sabah was close to his heart.

“PM Najib has frequented Sabah more than any other previous prime ministers..long before election period and long before Warisan was even established. He is not a seasonal politician.

“If Shafie is so strong and supposedly have a ‘burgeoning Warisan wave taking over Sabah’, why is he worried who comes and how often they come?” he asked.

Musa said there was nothing strange about the BN leadership paying more than one visit to a state during the leg of his campaign.

“Especially in a state as big as Sabah where the size of the district of Kinabatangan alone is the size of Pahang,” he said.

He said Shafie was just trying to divert attention from the growing number of Warisan members ditching the party because of their discontentment over the lack of consensus and respect for their wishes.

“Earlier today, 16 branches in Kudat comprising 886 members left Warisan because they are not happy with the party’s leadership. Prior to today, we saw a similar exit in Kimanis and Batu Sapi,” he said.

Musa said Shafie’s campaign was full of rhetorics, empty promises and grandiose proposals that most likely would not see the light of day.

“When you want to win the people’s hearts, you will promise the moon and the stars. That’s the opposition. That is Shafie Apdal,” he added.
