SANDAKAN, April 27 — Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman today announced the rent-to-own concept for all houses under the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) in Sabah. With the announcement, those renting the PPR houses in the state would own the property with the expiry of their leasehold agreement.

Musa said the houses were previously rented out to the less affordable people, who were now the house owners under the new concept. “I was informed by State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman that the application (for rent-to-own concept) has been approved by the federal government.

“So now, the PPR tenants just continue to pay the rent and the houses will eventually be theirs,” he said when opening the Jalan Lintas Army Camp here today. Musa said state’s application to implement the concept was approved by the federal government because of the good relations between the state and federal governments. As the chief minister, he said, he always listened to complaints from PPR residents who wanted to have their own house. On the new road, stretching about one kilometre, Musa said it helped to reduce traffic congestion in the area. — Bernama
