A judicial review to compel former Rural and Regional Development minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to return funds related to rural projects in Sabah is expected to be filed after the 14th General Election.

Umno Semporna committee member Datuk Mohd Ainal Abdul Fattah, who is also a lawyer, said the filing had been rescheduled via counsel Marcel Jude Joseph.

“The judicial review is to request a court order for Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie to refund RM7.5 billion funds which was missing during his tenure as the Rural and Regional minister between 2010 and 2015

“During the course of (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) investigation, RM1.5 billion was found in various accounts which led to Shafie being arrested,” he said quoting reports, when contacted.
It was reported that the RM1.5 billion funds which was part of the RM7.5 billion federal government allocation was intended to finance projects to improve basic amenities for the underprivileged in Sabah.

Shafie, who is also Parti Warisan Sabah president, was arrested by MACC on Oct 19, 2017, to assist the commission probe into state rural projects.
After being remanded for eight days, the magistrate’s court released the Semporna member of parliament and granted RM100,000 bail with RM80,000 to be deposited.
